Not quick enough
Relexes that is! According to this reflexology chart, YJDKIY got stung in the Suprarenal/kidney/thyroid/lung/heart/spleen area. Ouch...actually, its more of an ITCH!

It happens!
Even to YJDKIY! It's been quite a while, and I'm really pleased with that...but, recently YJDKIY had to resort to a frozen meal. My choice:
Overall, this was pretty good and I'll likely buy it again. This appears to be a great company and I hope as I read more about them, I'm not disappointed. Love the organic ingredients (apparently only 86% though), and at 290 calories, it's a great dinner size. I did add about a tablespoon of grated parm for a little more protein and fill. It's a little high in fat an I could do without the 580 mg of sodium, but at least I can pronounce all the ingredients (yay, no preservatives and no apparent random additives, so I deem it acceptable, although, the non-specific spices* is a little brow-raisey, as is the term no ADDED msg!)
INGREDIENTS : NO TRANS FAT NO ADDED MSG NO PRESERVATIVES (VEGAN) ORGANIC BROWN RICE, FILTERED WATER, ORGANIC BLACK-EYED PEAS, ORGANIC BROCCOLI, ORGANIC MUSHROOMS, ORGANIC TOMATOES, ORGANIC CARROTS, ORGANIC ONIONS, ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, ORGANIC TAMARI (WHEAT FREE), ORGANIC CILANTRO, ORGANIC GINGER, SEA SALT, ORGANIC GARLIC, SPICES*.100%PURE HERBS AND SPICES. (NO HIDDEN INGREDIENTS).CONTAINS SOY.

Local on the Cheap
YJDKIY's hot little hands have been sampling sheets all over the place. I went all the way up to 500 thread count, and considered some online retail options to acquire the comfiest summer sheets. None could I find that were both cute, lightweight, the perfect texture, and mainly, affordable. $249 for basic white? No thank you. Even at places like Sam's Club and Marshalls, they were a good $70.
And then I discovered the deal of the century at...don't fall out of your chair....Walmart. Under the Better Homes & Garden label, I found cute paisley print 250 percale sheets (60 cotton, 40 poly) that felt great and matched, and were only $29. After one wash, they feel even better. Score!
The actual color/print I found doesn't seem to be online, but check out your local evil big box for similar sensational summer sleeping in significant savings!

WTF
Recently, YJDKIY acquired a lovely pork tenderloin from Wild Turkey Farms (wtf). Saving it up for a yummy grill, I opted to not marinate so the flavor of the meat could shine.
In addition to the tasty flavor and tender texture, the first thing all diners noted was the lack of excessive salt. I remember this from the previous organic pork adventure, but unlike that one, this one didn't have to have a passport to get to my plate. Animal Welfare Approved and raised with lots of piggy space just a few miles from The Ave. AND, luckily, I get the weekly privilege of being able to purchase this at the SFM. :)
BEANS, GREENS, and GRAINS
To complete this local dinner (sort of), I chopped up the rest of my Correll Farms swiss chard loot and sauted with red onion and garlic in olive oil. Add in lots of spices: pretty much everything of the savory variety (thyme, garlic salt, pepper, coriander, oregano, turmeric, basil, parsley, rosemary and cumin). Once it cooks down a bit, add garbanzos and black-eyed peas, as well as some brown rice. To keep it from getting wilty and fried like, add a little vegetable stock (of course I don't know how much, stop asking!), covered and let it steam. After about 5 minutes, douse the whole mix with garlic rice vinegar and let it cook for just a few more minutes. Super duper power side dish!
The perfect (natural) size of the tenderloin didn't take nearly as long as the oversalted, hopped up on steroids grocery store kind, so dinner was ready in a flash!

Market Finds #4
In addition to 4 qts. of delicious Eagle Farms strawberries, YJDKIY acquired delicious and gorgeous Swiss Chard from Correll Farms for just $2.50.
Arriving back home, I chopped it up, sauted in olive oil, pepper and garlic salt, and added some egg beaters for a savory and slightly salty breakfast. Which started off my leafy green Saturday! Lunch involved kale and a salad, and dinner included spinach!
---
If vegetables got grades for traditional nutrients alone, Swiss chard would be one of the vegetable valedictorians. The combination of traditional nutrients, phytonutrients (particularly anthocyans), plus fiber in this food seems particularly effective in preventing digestive tract cancers. Read more about chard.

Regional Briefs: Air-quality warning issued for the Triad
Le sigh. When YJDKIY moved to the Triad in 2001, these only happened on the very hottest of late July and August days. I also didn't even think of touching the A/C until mid-late May.

Let the 4 month overdose begin....
I've heard the easiest way to quit a bad habit or anything is to go cold turkey. I think the reverse is true. Shamelessly indulge in it as much as possible for as long as possible. By the end of August, about the time I can't find a watermelon worth having, I am coincidentally sick of it!
10 Facts You Never Knew About Watermelon
- Not only does it quench your thirst, it can also quench inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis.
- Over 1,200 varieties of watermelon are grown worldwide.
- Watermelon is an ideal health food because it doesn’t contain any fat or cholesterol, is high in fiber and vitamins A & C and is a good source of potassium.
- Pink watermelon is also a source of the potent carotenoid antioxidant, lycopene. These powerful antioxidants travel through the body neutralizing free radicals.
- Watermelon is a vegetable! It is related to cucumbers, pumpkins and squash.
- Early explorers used watermelons as canteens.
- Watermelon is grown in over 96 countries worldwide.
- In China and Japan watermelon is a popular gift to bring a host.
- In Israel and Egypt, the sweet taste of watermelon is often paired with the salty taste of feta cheese.
- Every part of a watermelon is edible, even the seeds and rinds.

2010 Met Costume Institute Gala
This is a long one, but there were just so many fun things to look at!
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/04/nyregion/04costume.html
*Disclaimer - YJDKIY refuses to look up the spelling of celebrity names. Sorry, they're lucky I even know their names!
Chloe Sevingy - this actually works, except the back is bad, trust me. Maybe its just that she looks so much more, fashiony, than on Big Love! Speaking of, love, those shoes! B
Anne Hathaway - the top doesn't fit well, and it looks like tutu material, plus the color, which works with her hair, isn't really that flattering. C
And in related news,
Jennifer Lopez - the top does fit, but they should have swapped! B
Blake Lively - This looks fantastic on her, the cut, the color, the fit. It's age and event appropriate. I'm not sure who else could pull it off though. A
Carey Mulligan - Again I say, she was SO cute in the movie...can't you just work that look? This is all wrong, the heavy black bottom with the light hair and lacey purple pocketed frock? D
Christina Hendricks - She is so glamorous, and perhaps its just the in motion shot, but she's kind of channeling the Statue of Liberty meets a scary Katharine Hepburn. I don't really like the color, cut, the drapies, the furry animal on her shoulder, or the make up, but she still looks pretty. C
Gisele Bundchen - Um, catwoman got in a fight with a wild west rodeo outfit and this is all that's left? Not even her "perfect" body can work this fringey black leather disaster. D
Kate Hudson - meh. that's it. that and the leg looks really awkward, but thanks for not thinking you have to be orange to wear this color. C-
January Jones - It's a little promy, but I actually like this dress and think she looks cute and event appropriate, but could have done without the gloves. B+
Also in related news,
bah, I can't even remember this lady's name, but I think her version of this dress isn't working for her, at all. D
Dunno who this is either, but I do like her gauzey tulley whatever that is dress. Can't really explain why it works, but it does. B+
Rachel Zoe - Bizarre color choice with the hair, but it pops off the red carpet for sure! I like the top and the bottom, but what happened in the middle?D+
Taylor Swift - bleh, meh...exact same comment as the last time I EFSA'd her. Except maybe even worse. D
Tina Fey - I don't even know what to say about this. It's almost stereotypical and she's too old for the boomerang trend of the pantsuit. Plus its just not flattering. I like the top, but the bottom...the bottom. And those eyes...hello Nefertiti? Maybe she WAS going for costume! C-

Eco-best!
YJDKIY followed this recipe to a t! Except, I didn't measure anything and I added some grated parm and lemon juice at the end. And I broiled for a few minutes.
Pecans and panko, with thyme and a little water (I thought that was a crazy idea, but it really helped to mix stick to the fishes)
Asparagus in olive oil, thyme, pepper, garlic salt (a pinch!) and agave.
US Farmed Catfish, an eco-friendly best choice (if not particularly healthy, good thing HT only has it once in a blue moon) all put together and waiting for the slowest heating oven in the world to get to 400! PS: LOVE my new iPhone app for seafood choosing!
This was super easy to assemble and fancy looking, but pretty bland for YJDKIY tastes. I ended up adding more lemon and parm just to get a hint of flavor. I should know any recipe that doesn't call for massive amounts of garlic or onions should be modified!

I heart Mondays?
Reasons I love Mondays!
- I get to wear jeans. Some places have casual Fridays, we do casual Mondays
- I get to resume my regularly scheduled programming of audio book goodness.
- Because it is pouring rain and windy and feels like hurricane weather this Monday morning, naturally there is an accident, which means I get to eat my breakfast in the car.
- I'm not *quite* as sleepy when the alarm goes off at
5:30 am5 am having rested on Sunday. - I'm the only female in the gym before 6 am which means there are plenty of
ellipticalstreadmills to choose from because no males ever use those, so I get to pick the one directly under the (not moving) fan for maximum comfort. - I don't feel guilty sitting around all day.
- I won't think twice about going to bed at 8:30 pm.

Home again, home again, dancing a jig;
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog;
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.
Maybe not a fat hog or plum bun exactly, but today's Market stash, after a perfect 10 minute bike ride, included kale from Correll Farms (did we see this very plant last week!?), (the most delicious ever) strawberries from Eagle's Farm, pork tenderloin from Wild Turkey Farms (last one!), and whole wheat bread from the Bread Basket. YUM!
1 hour later update: there are about half those strawberries left

Making Atkins Happy
Seriously? I thought this was a joke when I saw it advertised on TV on April Fool's Day. But look what showed up in my mailbox yesterday. A chicken sandwich. But not just any sandwich. This one has no bun! Yay, that's good right? Less carbs! Holy moly...you'd think fast food places would be inventing menu items that are healthier than any of their existing items.
But no! Not KFC! This new Double Down tops their sandwich list in calories (540), fat (32), saturated fat (10), transfat (.5), and is second (only to the grilled double down, explain that!) in cholesterol (145) and sodium (1380).

Records
YJDKIY seems to be in a competition with myself to make the fasted dinner ever!
Saute onions and green pepper in olive oil, add Smart Life Ground Originial and continue to brown. Add in fresh baby spinach leaves (I used a whole bag!) and mix in until wilted.
Add some Organic Newman's Own Basil Tomato sauce (MAN it kills me to eat this. For the life of me I do not know why one serving of tomato sauce needs to include 650 mg of sodium.)
Serve all mixed together over whole wheat pasta and topped with mozza. My cool Flickr app that takes pictures and uploads them lost my presentation photo. Or, um, user error of that app lost it. :(

Learning to love
So YJDKIY is normally an elliptical snob when it comes to cardio gym time. But, I'm learning to love the treadmill due to my new schedule (which puts me at the gym at the same time as a group of middle aged men, who actually seem quite fit but for some reason hog the ellipticals. I know that is stereotypical, but I'm not used to seeing male elliptical users. Sorry.)
But, since people older and fatter than YJDKIY seem to be running 5Ks all over the place, I decided surely I could learn to do that. It is a true fact that I hate running, its uncomfortable mainly, but it's also boring and I seem to burn less calories in 25 minutes on a treadmill than on an elliptical. But, lately I've been doing modified intervals and it seems to keep me occupied constantly adjusting the incline and speed, increase my stamina, and get me running for more than 2 minutes at a time. Here's a look at my plan of action, which is not nearly as sprinty and intervally as a trainer would have you do, but works for me.

Farm Tour
Today YJDKIY set out on a farm tour of three local, and very different, farms, organized by The Bread Riot.
The first stop was Correll Farms, a mid sized operation with produce, beef, and plants. There are 5 generations of farmers here and it really shows that this is a family business.

The first stop was Correll Farms, a mid sized operation with produce, beef, and plants. There are 5 generations of farmers here and it really shows that this is a family business.
No asparagus left here!
Garlic and spring onions
Blue Ridge Kale
Cabbage
Butterhead lettuce
Fennel, lettuce, cabbage
Baby tomato rows
Next stop was Circle D Beef, completely family owned and operated. Although YJDKIY doesn't really eat any form of beef, it was really interesting to learn the history of that particular farm and see what goes on throughout the year and see the new practices such as strip grazing, combined with time-honored family traditions that go into these grass-fed beefs.
farm house
inside the 1800s barn
mini-strip grazing
making the feed right there on the farm - no corn, all barley
barn and happy cows
Last on the tour was Bame Farms, a very small, startup type farm. Both Andy and his wife have full time jobs and work their farm after that. They use rotational grazing of cows, goats and chickens, and have lots of other animals.
eggspecialty
free range chicken and chicken tractors
hogs...seriously thinking twice about ever eating this again, and these are even living pretty well.
rabbit rabbit rabbit
newly born chicks
Local food!

I took my nice point & shoot on this trip, but ended up, once again, taking all photos with my iPhone. I've decided with photography, you either go big or go home iPhone. There just isn't use for that middle range digital camera anymore, I can get just as decent pics with the iPhone (especially outdoors) and the P&S doesn't allow me to do the fancy photographer things that a nice camera does.
